I fell for one of those Acai berry scam things where you order the product online and just get a free trial for 5.00 for shipping and handling. However, apparently they charge your credit card monthly and keep sending it to you. I can’t get in touch with anyone ont he customer service line. If I cancelled my debit card and the bank is sending me a new one with a different number, can they still charge me?
I’d say Tell the bank what happened and see what they think you should do. If you call the acai company back and leave a message be sure to include the words fraud, attorney and class action.

No they can’t charge you on your new card. As long as the only bank information you gave them was the card number and not any information about your checking account you should be good.

I would double check with your bank to be sure, but I don’t think they will be able to charge you once you change your debit card. You may be able to get the charges stopped as well by calling the card company, if you explain that you have made every effort to cancel and the company is dodging your calls. For future reference, it is better to use a credit card when you are placing orders online. The protection is better from fraud and in your case the ability to call and get the charges stopped is also much easier.

No, they can’t. I fell for one of them too and was charged $86.00 4 times after trying to cancel to no avail. I eventually had to cancel the card because my bank wouldn’t just stop them from going in.
Cancel it, and if your afraid that you gave them bank information, shut down the whole account and get another account and a new debit card.
